The scenic cantata of the German composer Carl Orff from 1936 is considered one of the most evocative musical-instrumental works. The setting to music of the medieval poetic code of the Benedictine monastery of Beuern in Bavaria, which sets a series of secular songs of the flourishing European space, still urges artists to new interpretations. A few years ago, Reinhard Summerer, on the initiative of the artistic director of Studio Percussion Graz, undertook a new reworking of this work, the instrumental portion of which rests on the expanded sonority of as many as nineteen percussionists. His adaptation was performed for the first time in 2019 under the direction of conductor Rahela Durič Barić, who will also lead the first performance of Summerer’s adaptation of Carmina Burana in Slovenia at this year’s annual production of the Academic Choir of Tone Tomšič of the University of Ljubljana.
